Looking for ancestors and descendants of George Glennie Leslie McCandlish, last known legal bearer of the McCandlish coat of arms and crest.
What we know so far:
Born in Lewisham Blackheath, London, England, in 1873 to William McCandlish and Letitia Clementine Mytton (of a Mytton family who are covered in some detail in Crisp’s Visitation of England and Wales, Vol. 17, 1911).
Died Dec. 1925 in Thanet, Kent, England
That William McCandlish was born in Edinburgh 27 Oct. 1825; lived in Westminster and worked as a civil engineer; died at Cricklewood, co. Middlesex, 31 Jan. 1897; bur. in Charlton Cemetary, co. Kent.
He was the son of another William McCandlish, of Edinburgh, and wife Felicite Leslie MacGregor (sister of Gen. Paul MacGregor). It is probable that this earlier William McCandlish is the person to whom the McCandlish arms were first granted.
If George G. L. McCandlish had a son, and that son had a son, and so on to the present day, then there would still be a living owner of the McCandlish coat of arms and crest.
